The new look on the greens how
Posted On 08/05/2010 04:45:45

Ever since Tiger Woods entered the golf circuit, the sport Best Other Brand Women''s Shoes Online hasn't been the same. The "new face in golf" has attracted players of every ethnicity and has inspired Craig Tanner to change with the times.

As president of Urban Golf Gear (UGG), Tanner has given a fresh, sporty look to golfers' mundane attire by combining technical fabrications with a taste of urban flair. The Oakland, California-based firm, launched in June 1997 as an "athleisure" apparel brand, offers windshirts; jackets; T-shirts; women's baby T-shirts; spaghetti strap tanks; golf shirts; and hats made of fabrics like microfiber, drytech, and supplex. The apparel ranges in price from $13 for golf towels to $20 for T-shirts and up to $140 for jackets.

Tanner earned cash to start UGG, which now has six employees, by refurbishing and selling a used car. With the $1,500 he gained from the sale, he purchased T-shirts, hats, and prefabricated golf shirts. He then embroidered his logo on the items and sold his new line to a local golf troupe. To meet subsequent expenses, Tanner relied on over $50,000 in personal credit. Revenues reached $400,000 in 2003, nearly doubling 2002's sales.

A graduate of San Jose State University, Tanner worked as a stock broker and a sales manager before he became his own boss. The 41-year-old was inspired to start the company after witnessing Woods win his third amateur golf title: "When Tiger won, I knew that people of color and kids would get into golf."

Despite the $5 billion and $15 billion that consumers 深圳龙岗搬家公司 spend in the golf and urban apparel markets, respectively, Tanner found it difficult to find distribution. Tanner states, "Buyers are making it hard for the line to be picked up by retailers." He continues, "In turn, retailers are showing resistance to the gear because they do not understand the UGG brand."

After numerous unsuccessful attempts to secure financing, Tanner decided to operate as though an influx of cash would not be immediate. Instead of trying to tweak his business to accommodate investors, Tanner devoted himself to moving forward with UGG.

Despite the setbacks, the entrepreneur persevered. In an effort to reach the public, Tanner established independent distributorships where "distributors" would buy UGG's apparel at predetermined prices and sell the line to customers. He's also found success selling customized commemorative golf packages through charity golf tournaments under a profit-sharing plan.

The entrepreneur sells UGG at golf tournaments, fundraisers, and events such as Black Expo, African Marketplace, and the Congressional Black Caucus.

The turning point for UGG occurred when repeat customers sought out the apparel. Tanner relies on networking and word of mouth to help establish national recognition of his brand. Dedication has prompted his gear to be featured on TV shows such as The Tracy Morgan Show and The Bernie Mac Show and in movies such as Two Can Play That Game and S. W.A.T.

Tanner plans to establish flagship stores in major metropolitan cities. He is currently setting up a licensing deal with a Japanese trading company to handle process manufacturing, fabric cutting, assembling, and shipping of the apparel. The trading company also has the task of finding retailers willing to pick up the line.

He continues to seek financing and retail placements and recently signed a deal with

THE NEED FOR SPEED
Posted On 08/05/2010 04:45:34

'If I die doing this," I thought as I settled myself at the wheel of the new Chevrolet Camaro and prepared to gun it up the hill at the Goodwood, "it Valencia will be kind of OK with me." I am far from ready to peg out and a number of close family associates would be mightily peeved if I departed prematurely; but, given the choice between the cancer ward and somersaulting a Camaro at high speed into the tall, cobbled walls that line parts of the track at Goodwood, I know where my preference lies.

Both the car and the place are long-term loves. Goodwood has been a site of pilgrimage for me since I was 14, when I first started spending my pocket-money on Southdown coaches to carry me to meetings there (watching Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, John Surtees, Bruce McLaren, Dan Gurney, Graham Hill, Phil Hill and a host of immortals).

Goodwood's own promotional literature today includes some sentences that I wrote about that age - where I said that, for a young teenager, Goodwood was "cool and hip and jazzy and held out the promise that an adult life could be thrilling and free and fun". I still feel that way. The Festival of Speed may have broadened into an event which attracts more than 100,000 people every day over the weekend but, for me, Goodwood is my own spiritual home and the Earl of March's ancestral claim is that Pendant of a mere usurper.

The Camaro is almost equally an object of sentimental attachment. A Z28-IROC Camaro -- the quintessential American rock 'n'roll muscle- car -- was, improbably, my family car for several months when I was living in California in the mid-1980s. The memory of its rumbling, grumbling V8 still makes me smile -- along with its low-rent, tacky interior and the T-top roof panels which my little son would beg me to remove so that he could feel the sunshine pouring in.

So an invitation to drive a new Camaro up the hill at Goodwood as a prelude to this year's Festival of Speed was so irresistible that it could almost be seen as a ticket to heaven -- return preferred but one-way accepted.

The new left-hand drive Camaro -- the first to bear that name since 2004 -- has a colossal, burbly 6.2 litre V8 with 425bhp which is direct kin to the Z28's engine but, in many other ways, it is a far cry. Where my cherished low, lithe dart of tinny metal was bare and brutal, the new car is hefty and squat. Burdened with accessories like multidirectional powered seats, it weighs an elephantine 3,849lbs. Even so, it will make a bargain when it goes on sale in Britain cheap ugg next year. A final price has yet to be set, but it is likely to be less than Pounds 40,000 which will make the Camaro the cheapest 2 2 you can buy with performance capable of rivalling Aston Martin's Pounds 120,000 DB9.

With those daunting facts in mind, it seemed highly possible that the Camaro would prove too much for me and I had resigned myself to my demise as I trickled to the Start line until Nick, the professional driver in the passenger seat, nervously inquired if I was aware of a 75mph limit throughout the 1.1 mile drive.

We boomed off the line with some panache but I realised in seconds that I had no idea what came next. It has been 10 years since I drove up the Goodwood hill and Nick was frequently called upon to bellow "Right turn coming! Right AT THE WALLL!"

It was over too soon. My performance would not even have been in the same spacetime dimension as the 40 second record for the 1.16 mile track, but we were not hanging about. When I asked Nick if he would have selected second gear at

Alarm as skin cancer rates mou
Posted On 08/03/2010 22:44:19

PEOPLE aged in their 60s and 70s are around five times more likely to be diagnosed with deadly skin cancer than their parents were 30 years ago, a new analysis of figures showed today.

Malignant melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and incidence rates have risen dramatically since the 1970s.

People in their 60s and 70s have seen the biggest increase over the last three decades, from seven cases per 100,000 people in the mid 1970s to 36 cases per 100,000 in 2004/06.

DKNY Replica More than 10,400 cases of malignant melanoma are diagnosed each year in the UK.

Cancer Research UK, which released the analysis, said many older people now experiencing skin cancer would have been enjoying cheap package holidays in the 1970s.

This was when "sunburn before suntan was a common ritual" and was the time when sunbeds arrived in the UK, the charity said.

The most dramatic rise in malignant melanoma has been among men in their 60s and 70s.

They are now more than seven times as likely to be diagnosed with the disease as in the 1970s.

Launching the 2010 SunSmart campaign for Cancer Research UK, Caroline Cerny said: "A change in the culture of tanning, including the explosion of cheap package holidays and the introduction of sunbeds in the 70s, means we're now seeing alarming rates of melanoma for an entire age group.

"The battle against melanoma is far from won. Today the problem threatens to get worse as teenagers continue to crave a tan on the beach and top it up cheaply on sunbeds.

"Already, skin cancer is predicted to become the fourth most common cancer for men and for women in the UK by 2024.

"We must continue to try and stop this pattern of behaviour or melanoma rates in future generations will hit an all time high."

She said people should use a high factor sunscreen and avoid the temptation Breitling Watch to redden or burn in order to get a tan.

Those with fair skin, freckles and lots of moles should also take extra care in the sun.

Cancer Research UK predicts that by 2024, rates of malignant melanoma in people aged 60 to 79 will rise by a third.

UK death rates have more than doubled from 1.2 per 100,000 in 1971 to 2.6 per 100,000 in 2007.

Sue Deans, a 64-year-old grandmother from Dorset, was diagnosed with malignant melanoma after having a mole removed a few years earlier.

"I was famous for getting brown," she said.

"When I was younger, having a tan was seen to be very attractive, and I would spend hours in the sun without any protection.

"My skin would burn and peel and I would pick off the skin after it had blistered. And then when I was in my early 20s I began going abroad on holiday and would spend most of my time sunbathing.

"I truly believe my skin cancer diagnosis was due to the sunburn I suffered as a child and teenager.

"If only we'd known at the time how dangerous getting burnt was, and the effect it would have 30 to 40 years later. But we just weren't aware of the risks and how important it was to be safe in the sun and not get bur nt."

Man Charged In Wyalusing Corps
Posted On 08/02/2010 00:12:50

A 62-year-old man has been charged for disinterring the body of June Stevens in Wyalusing Township in October 2009, said state police at Towanda and Bradford County District Attorney Daniel Barrett's office Wednesday.

In June, it was reported that state police served a search warrant at a private residence, the home of 91-year-old Jean Stevens of Wyalusing, on Old Stagecoach Road in Wyalusing Township, where the mummified remains of two human beings - one of them being June Stevens - were discovered.

Two case workers with the Area Agency on Aging had told the state police that Jean Stevens had two bodies in her home, according to an affidavit of probable cause. The case workers said that one of the bodies was Stevens' late husband, Jimmy Stevens, and the other was Jean Stevens' sister, June, according to the affidavit.

The District Attorney's office reported Wednesday that state police filed charges against James Flanagan of RD4 Wyalusing for disinterring the body of June Stevens. The body was seized by state police and the coroner in June and remains in the custody of the coroner, the news release from the District Attorney's office said.

It continued by noting that Flanagan was charged under the Health Code for disinterring a body without a permit. He was also charged with abuse of corpse under the Crimes Code section that prohibits treating a corpse in a manner that would outrage ordinary family sensibilities, it said.

Flanagan was a friend and neighbor of Jean Stevens, the news release noted.

Flanagan will need to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton in Wysox for arraignment after he is served with the summons, the District Attorney's office said.

It noted that the Health Code violation is a summary offense and the Crimes Code violation is a misdemeanor of the second degree. In their report, state police listed the charges filed against Flanagan as Abuse of Corpse (second degree misdemeanor) and Disinterment of Dead Human Bodies (summary offense).

No one has been charged with the disinterment of James Stevens since the disinterment occurred about 10 years ago and the statue of limitations has expired, according to the District Attorney's office.

The news release also noted that the affidavit supporting the charges against Flanagan does not mention any participants other than Jean Stevens. The remainder of the case remains under review and the District Attorney cannot provide further information, the news release said.

Earlier, The Associated Press reported that Jean Stevens has indicated through her attorney that she plans to build an aboveground vault on her property to store the bodies of James Stevens and June Stevens, according to Barrett. Stevens was told that she would be allowed to keep the bodies if she installed a mausoleum or crypt, the Associated Press reported.

Stevens previously told The Associated Press that she kept the embalmed remains of her loved ones because she wanted to be able to see them and talk to them. She also said she's claustrophobic and couldn't stand the thought of their bodies in caskets in the ground.

Man critically injured in Salt
Posted On 08/02/2010 00:12:34

SALT LAKE CITY -- Robert Ward held a friend's head in his arms as blood spurted out of a critical open neck wound after a fight turned ugly Tuesday night.

Police converged on the scene near 250 South and Main where two men, who witnesses said were intoxicated, started fighting on the west side of the street and 49-year-old Robert Lava was critically stabbed in the carotid artery in the neck around 8:15 p.m.

"It was horrible. I tried to stop the bleeding," Ward said a few hours after the stabbing. "I've been crying. Utah-Jazz I've never seen so much blood in my life. Blood was just spitting out of his jugular."

Nearby police rushed to the scene and one officer quickly donned a pair of rubber gloves and pinched off the blood flow, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Craig Gleason.

Blood trailed down Main Street from a red neon Downtown sign next to A.J.'s Kwik Mart all the way to Broadway (300 South). Police say the victim had run around, possibly panicked, for a ways until he received treatment. Lava, who police believe is homeless, was later transported to a mens Dewitt watches nearby hospital and is expected to survive.

"We had people right in the area. Lava got immediate medical care," Gleason said. "I don't know if he'd have made it without that, but he did get treated quickly and he'll survive."

The suspect, 47-year-old Henry Joe, was quickly detained. Joe, who police believe is also homeless, was later arrested and booked into Salt Lake County Jail under investigation of aggravated assault.

One woman, who only wanted to be identified by her street name Yoshi, said the stabbing didn't surprise her because "that kind of thing happens every day."

"The drunken idiots usually fight in this area," she said. "It's usually able to get broken up before this. The only thing that scares me is when it could be someone I know."

Gleason said downtown security is already high but fights in the area do occasionally happen. However, they're rarely this serious.

Dewitt watches "I don't think that we'll make any change in our patrol," he said. "This was an aggravated assault. We have them all over the city."

Football CESC NOT KIDDING HIMS
Posted On 07/29/2010 22:31:31

ARSENE WENGER believes Cesc Fabregas has matured like Patrick Vieira since his verbal attack on Mark Hughes last season.

Following Arsenal's bruising goalless draw with Blackburn in the FA Cup last February, the young Spaniard confronted the Rovers boss on the touchline in a heated row.

Jacob & Co. Single Diamond Bezel

Fabregas asked Hughes if he had played for Barcelona and when the Welshman said 'yes', the then 19-year-old Arsenal player shook his head in disbelief and said: "Well, that wasn't Barcelona football."

The Blackburn boss accused Fabregas of lacking respect and the Arsenal midfielder apologised.

And although Wenger insists his midfield general retains his competitive streak, he reckons he has grown used to the pressures of the Premier League like Vieira, the French captain of his Invincibles, did.

Wenger said: "Cesc is committed and you always like your players to have a winning attitude. Sometimes it can go a little over the top but Cesc has behaved well this season - I cannot remember one incident.

"There was maybe a stage, for about six months, where he went a bit the wrong way but he corrected that without any special management from me.

"Because he is so intelligent he realised that is not the way he wanted to go. Maybe the outrage in the media prompted that but great players always have a fair assessment of their behaviour."

Rovers winger David Bentley (right) returns to his old club tonight after an impressive England display.

Wenger is pleased for his 23-year-old former charge and admits he wishes he could have the chance to buy him back one day. Wenger said: "I am pleased if players have made a great career.

"Sometimes I try to put a buy-back clause in deals when I know they will be players. But that is a bit unfair because after letting them go you should give them the chance to go where they want."
